Lanka Truth has reported the world’s greatest spin bowler Muthiah Muralitharan may quit international cricket altogether even before the 2011 World Cup scheduled to be held in the subcontinent.

“I am 37 years old and I can’t bowl as much as those days because after 15-16 overs I get tired. But I will try and play a little bit of one-day cricket that’s only 10 overs to bowl. If I find everything is not going well I might retire from both forms of the game before the World Cup,” Muralitharan has told “The Nation”.

Take responsibility do nothing

Media has reported that speaking to a media that is favourable to the government Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva had said the death of the girl from Wariyapola, who died of ‘rubella’ poisoning, was due to the negligence of the staffs of MHO’s office and the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital. Minister Siripala Silva has said health authorities should take the responsibility for the death of the girl.  

 

Children at risk

A 11-year-old girl was gang raped by three persons at a household at Paalaavi in the Puththa’lam police area late last night. Police said the suspects had had forcibly broken into the girl’s home around midnight and repeatedly raped the minor after they had gagged and tied up the father and grandmother who were in the house at that time.

Neigbours had later surrounded the house on hearing the girl’s screams and apprehended two of the suspects, while the third had fled the area, police said.

The suspects were later tied on to trees and kept the entire night and turned over to the police early this morning. The victim’s mother is currently employed over seas.

Without Mervin no astrology for Rajapakse

Lanka Truth has reported that according to sources in the Presidential Secretariat the President is awaiting the arrival of ‘Dr’ Mervin Silva, who has gone to India at the moment to get advice from astrologers, to announce which election would be held first. According to these sources ‘Dr’ Mervin is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka tonight. As such, the President would announce his decision regarding the election tomorrow point out these sources.

According to common sense Rajapakse will hold the parlimentary election.

Illegal arrest and fabricated charges.

 I am Ukwatta Arachchige Piyadasa. I am 56 years old. I am married and have two children. I am a laborer at a rubber estate. I reside at Haddigalla people’s village, Puwakdola, Baduraliya. This incident was happened on 09.11.2009.

 On 02.11.2009 around 10am I was in my master’s house. At that moment two persons in civilian clothes came. They mentioned that they were from Baduraliya police station. They charged me saying I sell alcohol. I told them that I am not involving in such type of trade. Then one police officer said Neel Priyantha make alcohol while I sell. Neel is one of our neighbors. The police officer accompanied me to the road side.

 The motorcycle which they came stopped on the road. One police officer took a poll near by and prepared to hit me and threatened asking where alcohol was. I told them that I didn’t know anything about it. After that they took me to the Baduraliya police station by the motorcycle. I didn’t know the names of these police officers but I can identify after seen them.

 After that I was taken to the police station. I sat on a bench for sometime. The police officer who tried to assault me before I was taken to the police station put me to the cell. Around 8pm another police officer came and took me outside. I was taken closer to a table. One of the police officers there asked me whether I had offences previously. I said no. Then they recorded a statement from me and took my signature to it. But they didn’t even read or explain it to me. After that they took my finger print to a blank paper. Again I was put into the cell.

 On 03.11.2009 around 10am in the morning one of my neighbours called T.D.Premadasa came to see me. I was taken outside and released on bail. Premadasa signed for the bail application. The police officer who was there told me to come to courts on 06.11.2009. 
 

On 06.11.2009 I went to Matugama courts with T.D.Premadasa. There I came to know that I had fabricated of charges for keeping five bottles of alcohol. I told that I am not guilty before the courts. After that I was released on cash bail of Rs.3000/= and surety bail of Rs. 25000/= .T.D.Premdasa signed for the both bails.

 The next court hearing will be on 22.01.2010. The case bearing number is 50678.

 I request the authorities to take disciplinary and legal actions against the perpetrated police officers at Baduraliya police for illegal arrest and fabrication of charges against me.

 I also request to ensure proper protection for me from the police whom I fear for influence.

 

A leather ball and torture in schools

 I am Kalyani Jayasinghe. I am married and have five children. I reside at Wewarawuma, Athkadura.

 The name of my son is Kulawithanage Chandika Mahesh. He is 18 years old. He studies at Elpitiya Ananda Maha Vidyalaya. He is in year 13. He is studying arts.

 This incident was happened on 19.09.2009. On that day my son went to school as usual. Around 9.30am I received a telephone call from a class mate of my son. He told me that my son was assaulted by the teacher called Saman using a leather ball and as a result of this he was taken to Elpitiya hospital.

 At that moment I rushed to the hospital. When I went there I saw a police officer from the hospital police post and the teacher who assaulted my son were there. This said police officer didn’t allow me to enter the hospital saying that it was 12pm and the schedule time to see patients passed. I saw my son had a plaster on his face. My son was in ward number 01.

 After that I went to see the ASP of the police and told that my son was assaulted in the school and he was in the hospital but the hospital police post didn’t allow me to see him. Then this police officer tried to contact the hospital police post but failed. After that he directed me to Elpitiya police station.

 When I went there the perpetrated teacher was also there. There were several teachers from my son’s school also. One police officer told me that they couldn’t take any action because the perpetrated teacher helps them a lot.

 After that the officer in charge spoke to me. I described the incident in detail. Then he told me to make a complaint and go. At that moment the said teacher Saman also made a complaint saying that his bicycle was broken.

 My son’s lips were injured and put 8 stitches. According to my son the day which the incident was happened the children were gone to their classrooms after the morning school assembly. There was a corridor in front of my son’s classroom. The several boys from the Art classes A2 and A3 were passing a leather ball to each other. My son was talking with some students in front of his classroom. At that time the class teacher of A3 named Saman came there. The leather ball rolled near him and he picked it.

 The student named Sugath went to the teacher and asked for the ball. But the teacher didn’t give him the ball. So he came back and the teacher was also coming behind him. My son asked Sugath whether the teacher was not giving the ball. The teacher heard what my son said. The teacher came to assault my son. My son was walking back to prevent the assault. Then the teacher hit my son’s face with the leather ball. My son fell down. The teacher again dragged my son’s collar to assault him. But he released my son after seen blood on my son’s face and shirt. After that the children of my son’s class took him to Elpitiya hospital.

 My son was treated at the hospital until 21.09.2009. The JMO had inspected my son. The police officer from Elpitiya police station recorded a statement from my son.

I request the relevant authorities to take legal and disciplinary actions against this teacher Saman who assaulted my son cruelly and inhumanly.

Be careful about new lions

Daily Mirror has reported a  group of new lions are to be brought from Armenia and China to Sri Lanka, as the current Lions in the Dehiwala Zoo are to be transported to the Hambanthota Safari park when it’s completed, Duminda Jayaratne, Director General of the Zoo told Daily Mirror Online.

We remember that the number of animals have died in Dehiwela zoo very recent past. So the authorities must ensure the safety of all the animals.

Dwaraka

Rasiah Dwaraka, a student from University of Peradeniya who was arrested by terrorist investigation unit on 12^th November is still being detained. Her elder sister R. Wasanthala and her aunt visited her on the 16^th. Later, together with another aunt they met Deputy Chairman of Committees in Parliament, JVP Parliamentarian Ramalingam Chandrasekar and JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunneththi at the JVP head office at Pelawatta yesterday (17^th).   

 

The three of them with tears in their eyes told all information regarding Dwaraka and appealed to the two JVP Parliamentarians to help them in getting her released.

 

Dwaraka was born on 14^th April, 1988 and lived with her family at No.09, Kalmadunagar, Ramanadapuram in Killinochchi. She attended Kl/Dharmapuram Maha Vidyalaya and got through her A/L examination in 2007. She entered Arts Faculty of University of Peradeniya on 14^th July, 2008.

 

She had engaged in athletics from her childhood and has won several prizes. She had won the first place in the district in running events and had received a gold medal from Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse when Mr. Richard Pathirana was the Minister of Education. When she was arrested she had been training to take part in the inter-universities athletic meet to be held on 14^th November. According to her elder sister she was determined to take part and win her events.  

 

However, Dwaraka is in custody now. As a result she couldn’t take part in the athletic event nor could she continue her studies. According to her sister and aunts the immediate reason for the arrest of Dwaraka is the presence of the symbol of tiger organization in her certificates she had forwarded when she applied to take part in the athletic event. All students in areas where tiger organization controlled those days have the tiger symbol in their certificates. Forwarding these certificates indicates that she did not want to hide her possessing them.

 

It is no secret that many students were forcedly conscripted to tiger organization while they were studying in Killinochchi. When former leaders of the tiger organization have been given ministerial portfolios of this government,harassing school children who were forced to join the tiger organization cannot be accepted said Parliamentarian Ramalingam Chandrasekar. At a time the tiger organization has been defeated what is necessary is to win the goodwill of the Tamil people said Mr. Chandrasekar adding that acting without a proper programme and carrying out moves without a proper investigation that harass people would push them towards terrorism.    

 

Parliamentarians of the JVP pledged that they would take all possible measures that could be taken regarding Dwaraka.

Lanka Truth has reported Gen. Sarath Fonseka, who sent in resignation papers to Presidential Secretariat from the post of Chief of Defense Staff is scheduled to arrive at Kelaniya Temple this evening to engage in religious activities.

Will he come to politics? If it is then it will be like inguru de meris ganima. We can’t make mistakes of history happens twice.

JR to Premadasa and Chandrika to Ranil and Mahinda there were problems and there are still continuing but we have touched the democracy. I feel and sense that Mahinda and Ranil are better than the top general.
