Lanka-e-News, 2008 Aug. 08, 3.50 PM has reported Catholic priests in the Wanni have sent out a memorandum to the UN Secretary General highlighting the distress and sufferings of the over hundred thousand people of the region who have been rendered as homeless war refugees.
Head of the Wanni Sub Commission for Peace and Justice of the Catholic Church Rv.Fr. James Paththinathar and Rv.Fr. Benedict have jointly sent the memorandum stating that people were uprooted and rendered homeless due to indiscriminate artillery shelling and aerial attacks jointly by all the three armed forces causing the displacement of the people. They were languishing in jungle terrains without any basic needs including food, clothing, medicines, water and shelter. Pregnant mothers an d children are encountering untold hardships, the Catholic priests have stated in their memorandum.
